Volunteering
Age Concern Wigan Borough currently has volunteers undertaking a wide range of activities.
Volunteering for Age Concern Wigan Borough offers a variety of opportunities, either simply for choice of placement or to further develop your skills in a specific area. Training is provided which can be mandatory to your placement or as a matter of interest.
There are several areas in which to volunteer:
Hospital Information and Support Service - this is based within the Accident and Emergency Department at Wigan Infirmary
Insurance - our trading company sells various types of insurance
Holidays - we promote and sell holidays for various tour operators
Information & Advice - this involves providing advice on a wide range of subjects, including benefits and providing help completing forms
Home Safety - this involves assessing risks and minimising them by fitting various adaptations, such as smoke alarms, door chains etc. This means visiting service users in their own homes.
Social Centres - we provide a luncheon club which gives service users the opportunity to socialise
Reception & Administration - this is working in either of our two town centre offices
Advocacy - Advocates provide support to ensure the older persons voice is heard when facing life changing condition
We all have a story to tell - This is a projectinvolving a collectionof life experiences of people in the community
Once you have found your preference of where to start you can then move around the different areas to gain wider experience.
The amount of time given by a volunteer is down to the individual, any time given is fully appreciated!
Volunteering can be fun and you will benefit from the experience whilst assisting us to extend our services, allowing more people to access them.
If you would like to join our team then please contact Tracey Hocking at Pennyhurst Mill Wigan office.
