Resources
The most important resources available to support the work of Age Concern Wigan Borough are the staff and volunteers of the organisation, together with the income that is generated.
Altogether there are around 60 staff, both full and part time. This equates to approximately 24 full time posts. There are also over 82 active volunteers, contributing around 12,000 hours of time to the organisation each year.
Most of the services we deliver are done so with the support of volunteers. We always have opportunities for people to develop a range of skills through volunteering. For more information click on the volunteering link at the top of the page.
Funding
Age Concern Wigan Borough is funded through a wide range of sources.
Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
We have strong links with Wigan Council, especially the Adult Services Department and Supporting People which have resulted in a number of SLAs to run specific services. These are Care Homes Admissions, Tenancy Support and the Hospital Information and Advice Service, Starting Point, Handyperson and Direct Payments.
Grants
The organisation also receives grant funding from bodies such as The Big Lottery, Comic Relief, Lloyds TSB and more locally from Douglas Valley Community. Lottery funds have supported the Home Safety Service work and aspects of the Information and Advice Service. Local grants have supported training work and services linked to work in regeneration areas.
Trading Income
The contribution of trading work, through Age Concern Wigan Borough Enterprises, to the work of the charity is important because it represents a source of income that is unrestricted in terms of how it is used. The surplus on insurance and holidays work throughout the year is covenanted across to the charity throughout the year.
Fundraising activities and donations, which recognise the value placed in our work, also form a significant element of unrestricted income. In addition, fundraising activities are enjoyable and can support wider objectives.

Appeal for Support
