Information & Advice

What do we Do?

The Information and Advice Service is for all people aged 50 and over, their relatives / friends and carers who are resident within the Borough of Wigan.

The service is free and offers information and advice on a wide range of issues.

Some of the issues we help with are:

Welfare Benefits such as Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Invalid Care Allowance and Pension Credit.

Housing

Availability of grants and loans

Finding help at home

Moving into residential care

Consumer issues

Successes include raising £1.5 Million which otherwise may have been unclaimed benefit between April 2006 and March 2007!

We stock a large number of factsheets, all of which are available on request and free of charge.

We offer practical assistance such as completing forms and writing letters.

We also offer a home visiting service to those who would have difficulty getting to our offices.

All enquiries are dealt with confidentially and impartially. We will not pass individual details onto third parties without the prior permission of the service user.

This service is available in both our Wigan and Leigh offices. An appointment is necessary. Please contact our Wigan office, the details of which are on our Contact Us page.
